About

Barker Engineering Library is MIT's public engineering library, housed on the fifth floor of Building 10 beneath the campus's iconic Great Dome. The main reading room, in use since 1916, features comfortable seating in the centre of the space with a view up into the dome's restored oculus. Reviewers describe it as a quiet, charming place to spend time, with a unique atmosphere that draws visitors seeking a peaceful study environment.

The library is open weekdays from 10 AM to 6 PM and is wheelchair accessible. Its small size and quiet character make it suited to focused work, though specific details about WiFi, outlets and laptop policies are not documented in reviews.
