And if you prefer a university library that requires a student card, ask whether they also let outsiders in. At the Faculdade de Letras one it's possible; they just ask you to leave your citizen card with them while you're there.

on reddit.comThe Faculdade de Letras is good if you go early. It's very well known and fills up fast, and then you're stuck in the queue. I went 5 times last year and only got in 3. But it's really nice in terms of silence. It has sockets at the tables, which is cool.
